IDE DRIVES
IDE stands for Intelligent or Integrated Drive Electronics the electronics
required to opperate the drive are part of the drive unit but the software
routines required to talk to the IDE drive are store in the ROM eg 3.1
The drive contains a microprocessor that controls the operation of the
drive,by sychronizing the control of the disk interface and the read write
operations also spinup and spindown
All signals on the IDE interface are TTl (Transister_Transister_Logic)
The device uses 16 bidirectional data lines to transfer data on or of the
drive.
The A1200 employs a 44 way IDE connector as used for 2.5" drives 4 pins
(41-44) are used for power (5v).
Note 3.5" drives use a 40 way connector and use the same first 40 pins as
in diagram, but gets its power (12v and 5v) from a separate connector.
